The Experience

Your Wedding Story Through My Lens

When searching for the perfect photographer to capture your special day, it’s easy to get caught up in stunning scenes, cool lighting and well framed shots.

Which, yes, are all super important.

The thing is, when we’re spending the whole day together, best believe you’re going to want to want (I know, double ‘want’, but it needs to be stressed) to vibe with the person behind the lens.

SO - beyond glimpsing my distinctive shooting style and learning a bit more about me as an individual, here's a sneak peek into the essence of my shooting philosophy – the "why" and "how" behind what I do.

My shooting philosophy

My shooting philosophy

I like humans. A lot.

Which means I’m keen to chat, to connect, to get to know the real, true you so I can bring that person out in our session together. The more we get to know one another, the more magic I can unlock when the shutter clicks. Your genuine humanity and authentic relationship to others has so much more to offer the camera than any forced poses ever could.

Which also means...this is a pose-free zone.

Will we create images that illuminate your partnership and love? Absolutely. Will you feel like you're reliving your high school graduation photos with stiff poses and unnatural expressions? Heck nope.

But what if we’re awkward in front of the camera?

Almost every client has the same concern about feeling uncomfortable in front of the camera.  But here’s the thing, you’re going to be too busy on your wedding day to feel awkward.  I’m there to capture all the real moments, exactly as they unfold, which means all you have to do is show up and be you.  I will of course help to give some directions during the portrait portion of the day, so that that we capture all of your natural interactions, I promise not to leave you hanging.  And if all else fails and you’re still nervous, try a double shot of Tequila before we start ;)

Pas de Pinterest.

No, I'm not French, but I do appreciate the allure of alliteration. The heart of this sentiment is prioritizing the natural over the normative. In other words, we won't be duplicating images found on Pinterest. Refer back to points one and two: you and your partner, just as you are, are already perfect. We'll capture your natural expressions of love and bring out the unique qualities that define you and your guests. It’s highly possible people will start pinning your photos.

*Don’t get me wrong I think Pinterest definitely has a place - to gather inspiration and a create wedding mood.  But you’re hiring me for my unique perspective and ability to create artistic imagery that reflects you as unique as you are, so let’s create some fresh, never been seen before, magic together.

You’re probably picking up on it now...but I’m a fan of the unconventional.

In all forms. Whether you're quirky, kooky, original, or uniquely you, I'm here to celebrate your love story.

Here are some examples of the one-of-a-kind wedding celebrations I've had the honour of capturing:

Weddings with drag performers

Trunk-loads of costumes for a dress-up dance party

A competitive flip cup tournament

A wedding reception with a flash mob dance

A reverse wedding where the reception preceded the ceremony at dusk

A grand entrance on horseback

Piñata smashing instead of traditional cake cutting

So if you’ve got a ‘weird’ idea for a way you want to celebrate at your wedding, I’m here for it.

If this all fits your vision of not only the pictures you want, but the experience you want to have throughout the day….then we’ve got some good chemistry in the making.
