Romantic Wedding at The Permanent Gastown // Elle + Sarah

Im so excited to finally be sharing this wedding that is very near and dear to my heart!  Having been friends with Elle for many years, I was so happy to see her and Sarah together as they are very well suited for each other and balance each other perfectly.  Being asked to shoot their wedding was such a huge honour, and it was a wonderful, heartfelt day that I was so glad to be a part of.

I knew that they were going to have a stylish celebration but these two blew me away with their attention to even the smallest of details.  Every touch was so personal to Elle and Sarah that it made for a wedding that truly reflected who they are as individuals and as a couple.  The decor was full of vintage charm, with books, pennies (for good luck!) and rose quartz adorning the tables.  One of my favourite elements was the old photographs of loved ones who were not there that the brides had placed throughout the room.

Some words from Elle and Sarah: The most important thing was creating a feeling of beauty, love and warmth. We wanted every detail to be personal and engaging. To reflect not only the old world romance that we feel – but also to reflect the love and support that we feel for those that showed up for us as a couple. It was imperative that everyone who showed up for us felt welcome and loved!

Beyond just the glamorous decor though, the day was full of so many meaningful moments that made it so so special.  From the beautiful first look in Stanley Park to the teary vow exchange in front of their loved ones, the day was all emotions and love and capped off with a mean dance party.  Click on the image below to see the full gallery.

Vancouver Wedding Photographer // Courtney + Steven at The Permanent

I'm finally getting around to updating all the content on my website and have a bunch of wedding from last Summer that I can't wait to share with you.  First up is Courtney and Steven's wedding at The Permanent in Gastown.  I had the opportunity to shoot at this lovely restored heritage venue twice this past year and I love it for all it's character and vintage charm.

Courtney and Steven were so much fun to work with, they were up for anything and completely trusted my vision to shoot their portraits in an urban setting.  They wanted artistic and fun wedding party photos and I think we totally achieved that.  Some of my favourite wedding party photos to date came out of this wedding (it helped that their friends are an amazing and super fun group of people!)

Getting to know these two over the course of the year, I could immediately tell how much they love each other.  They seem perfectly matched in so many ways and it was so easy for me to capture this aspect of their relationship.  Click the image link below to see their full gallery.

Congrats again Court and Steven!

2016 - Year in Review

Whoa. What a feat it was putting together this 'Year in Review' blog post.  I have witnessed and been a part of too many beautiful, joyous and heartfelt moments to narrow it down to just a few.  So, sorry not sorry.  This post is going to be mammoth, so you might want to grab a cup of tea and maybe take a bathroom break before settling into this one.  Oh yeah, and grab some kleenex because there are many tear inducing images coming your way.

So many exciting things have happened in the past year, and it's been the biggest and best for my business so far!  I finally went full time in May and had a killer 2016 wedding season, doubling my bookings from last year.  I travelled a lot as well, visiting Kauai, Portland, New Orleans, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and road-tripping through California.  I have seen one of the most beautiful sunsets of my life (Yosemite), stood at the base of one of the most awe-inspiring waterfalls (Iceland), photographed my first wedding that wasn't in English (Sweden), captured a Secondline parade at a New Orleans wedding, and connected with and met so many inspiring and talented photographers both online and at some incredible workshops and conferences like Possible Portland and ARC.

Thank you to everyone who has been following along and supporting me in my journey, especially to my amazing clients who put their total trust in me to capture their special days.  It has been awesome to not only document these memories but also to come out of it with new friends :)  Also, a huge thank you to my husband for always supporting my crazy dreams and being there ready with sandwich in hand for those hangry moments.

I'm so excited for things to come in 2017, I already have many unique and amazing sounding celebrations on the books and a few creative and personal projects that I'm going to try and pursue.  Oh yes, there will also be travel (obvs) next year we are heading to Mexico and Newfoundland as well as doing some local BC exploring.  Can't wait!

See you in 2017!

Whistler Wedding Photographer // Yvonne + Dan at Nita Lake Lodge

It has been a busy wedding season so far and there is so much more to come!  I needed to take a break from editing to blog this sweet, intimate Whistler elopement though because it is one of my favourites to date.  Yvonne and Dan had a very small wedding on the dock at Nita Lake Lodge with their immediate families present.  It was a beautiful and heartfelt event, you could really feel the love, not only from the couple but also from their families who were obviously thrilled about their marriage.

I love elopements because it gives me time to really focus on the couple.  We had an amazing portrait session later in the day (give me that golden light anytime!) and hit up a bunch of great spots around the Whistler area as well as taking a little ride in a red canoe.  The pair was totally relaxed and so into each other that my job was made so easy!

Vancouver Wedding Photographer // Yvonne + Dan Gastown Engagement Session

It's been a while since I last blogged as wedding season is now in full swing!  I shot Yvonne and Dan's Gastown engagement session a few months ago and I thought it turned out beautifully so I have been waiting for an opportunity to share it.  The session may have started off with some awkward jokes but these two quickly became comfortable and settled into just being in love. They picked Gastown at the setting for their pictures because their wedding was to be at Nita Lake and we thought it would be a very different-vibe than the more natural surroundings of their lake wedding.  Luckily it was a gorgeous Vancouver evening and I got to use a newly scouted parkade (yes, I'm obsessed with parkades) downtown to do some golden hour shots of the pair. It was a total coincidence that Yvonne's jacket matched the background so perfectly and we ended up with some gorgeous minimalist shots that I adore!  Click on the image below to enjoy!

Iceland Wedding Photographer // Russell + Hjordis

In July I was fortunate to travel to one of my dream destinations, Iceland to shoot part II of Russell + Disa's wedding story.  I had captured their beautiful Vancouver Island wedding earlier in June and they wanted to continue their photos in Disa's home country.

Everything about this trip was so special.  These two took a chance on me and trusted me to capture their memories and I'm so grateful for it.  They were totally open to my vision and were awesome clients, never complaining even while shooting in the cold Icelandic wind.

More than anything I feel like I got two friends out of the experience and that for me is why I love this job.  Seeing the world and getting to meet interesting people with unique stories is the best part of being a wedding photographer.

Til Hamingju Russell and Disa!
